Musicians Talk: Trumpet

TRUMPET
Jarmo Hoogendijk, Jimmy Sernesky and Angelo Verploegen talk about natural embouchure, the amount of practice, motivation and injuries.

On tour, over dinner, in the car, in the train, at airports, during and after rehearsals musicians don’t tend to talk much about music, but when they do you get to hear ins and outs that somehow never seem to surface in articles.

Many thanks to Micha de Kanter and Philip ten Brink for the recordings and Seeltje van Boeckel for the editing.

Doek Composes – Emptier by Michael Moore

Doek composes for solo improvisers, a new and ongoing series on Doek RAW featuring original artwork by Lena Czerniawska.

“Emptier was written after hearing news of Cor Fuhler’s passing. The title refers to both how life is during the Covid-19 pandemic and how it is without Mr. Fuhler.
It’s sappy, I know, and Cor would have hated it, but I remain true to myself, as Cor always was.”
Michael

Doek Composes
One of the main pillars of Doek is how improvising musicians deal with composed musical elements.

PIANO
Guus Janssen, Oscar Jan Hoogland, Michiel Braam and Marta Warelis talk about original ideas, teachers, teaching, the influence of other players (Willem Breuker, Tobias Delius), playing inside the piano for which Cor Fuhler (who passed away 6 days after recording this episode) had found nice solutions.
