 Jochem van Tol: klankinstallaties/instrumentbouwer/musicus was born in Amsterdam in 1983. He completed interfaculty studies in Image & Sound/Artscience at the Royal Academy for Arts and the Royal Conservatorium in Den Haag. Starting point for his work is sound in the broadest sense of the word, from raw, ragged-edged rock music to minimal soundscapes. He plays in various bands and is preoccupied with conceiving, researching and making instruments and sound installations, often acoustic and simpoy designed. His research into new sounds elicits unexpected forms. Within these forms van Tol attempts to capture and magnify the magic of a material. This can result in a synthesis of sound movement and light, often with a humorous tone. In the future he would like to combine his work with theater, and to develop a concept which interweaves pop concert, theater and experimental sound installation
