Double bass
Ernst Glerum (1955) studied classical double bass at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. During his studies he joined contemporary music ensembles (ASKO ensemble) as well as improvised music groups (Curtis Clark, Hans Dulfer, JC Tans, Theo Loevendie).
With the Amsterdam String Trio and the Instant Composers Pool Orchestra he played many international stages. has performed with such artists as Art Hodes, Steve Lacy, George Lewis, Bud Shank, Teddy Edwards, Lee Konitz, Benny Maupin, Jamaladeen Tacuma, John Zorn, Don Byron, Uri Caine and many others, often along with Han Bennink.
As a composer/arranger he initiated projects like New Klookabilities (NOS Radio Jazz Festival), Universal Metropolitan Music, Omnibus, Continuo Continued (string project with a.o. Mark Feldman) and recently Jazz Sampler (Ebony String Quartet & Michiel Borstlap). In 1997 his cd `Elbow Room`was released.
Besides the Instant Composers Pool and Amsterdam String Trio he performs in the Guus Janssen Trio, Trio Bennink/Borstlap/Glerum and Available Jelly.
Ernst Glerum is double bass teacher at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Contrabas
Ernst Glerum (1955) studeerde klassiek contrabas aan het Amsterdams conservatorium. Tijdens zijn studie nam hij al deel aan ensembles voor eigentijdse muziek (ASKO Ensemble) als voor geïmproviseerde muziek (Curtis Clark, Hans Dulfer, JC Tans, Theo Loevendie).
Met het Amsterdam String Trio en het Instant Composers Pool Orchestra speelde hij op vele internationale podia. Hij trad op met muzikanten als Art Hodes, Steve Lacy, George Lewis, Bud Shank, Teddy Edwards, Lee Konitz, Benny Maupin, Jamaladeen Tacuma, John Zorn, Don Byron, Uri Caine en vele anderen, vaak in combinatie met Han Bennink.
Als componist/arrangeur initieerde hij projecten als New Klookabilities (NOS/Meervaart Jazzfestival), Universal Metropolitan Music, Omnibus, Continuo Continued (strijkersproject met o.a. Mark Feldman) en onlangs Jazz Sampler (het Ebony String Quartet & Michiel Borstlap). In 1997 kwam zijn CD Elbow Room uit.
Behalve met de Instant Composers Pool en het Amsterdam String Trio treedt hij op met het Guus Janssen Trio, het trio Bennink/Borstlap/Glerum en Available Jelly.
Ernst Glerum is docent contrabas aan het Amsterdamse Sweelinck Conservatorium.
